LAS VEGAS -- The next stage in the evolution of big data technology is "big media," and it involves lots and lots of digital video that streams in real time, according to James Kobielus, a senior program director and big data evangelist at IBM.
SearchDataManagement caught up with Kobielus at the IBM Information on Demand conference to learn about big media and its implications for the future. According to Kobielus, big media technology will have a major effect on just about every industry.
"Big media, as it evolves, will radically outstrip, in terms of magnitude, traditional big data environments," Kobielus said. "So we need to gear up our IT infrastructure with storage layers, with real-time middleware fabric and new kinds of analytics."
