Hannah Smalltree: Welcome to a searchDataManagement.com FAQ series about master data management. I'm Hannah Smalltree, editorial director for TechTarget's Enterprise Applications Media Group. Now I'm here at our MDM for the Enterprise Seminar series, and I'm posing some of these tough FAQs that we hear a lot to Jill Dyché, partner and co-founder of Baseline Consulting and, of course, a well-known MDM expert.
Thanks for joining us today, Jill. Ready? Now, what is MDM?
Jill Dyché: So, two things. When we're talking MDM we're talking about master data management. And, you can parse those three words and you can say, "master data," "management," which is basically the management of your common reference data across systems. The other way to look at master data management is "master" and then put the parenthesis around "data management." So, what we're doing is formalizing our processes around our common master data as well. Part of its technology, part of its implementation, and the skills are wrapped around all of that, so we'll talk a little bit about that, too.
