Informatica PowerCenter Real Time Edition (PowerCenter RTE)
In the Bronze spot for data integration is Informatica's PowerCenter Real Time Edition (PowerCenter RTE) product. That gives the vendor two wins in this year's Products of the Year program, as it also took Silver honors in the data quality category. Informatica said PowerCenter RTE extends its Standard Edition and gives companies one scalable and highly available platform to manage the entire continuum of data integration and data quality requirements – from analytical data integration to 24/7, real-time operational data integration. Judges gave it high marks, especially for functionality and performance.
The product, shipped in June 2008, provides a single, unified platform and focuses on features to make the "real-time enterprise" a reality, Informatica said, including real-time data warehousing, real-time synchronization of data between operational systems, operational data hubs and data services. Informatica states that PowerCenter RTE -- in addition to handling all latency requirements in a single package -- delivers universal data access, integrated data quality capabilities, continuous change-data capture for relational data sources, integration with messaging systems, dynamic partitioning for enhanced performance, grid computing capabilities, and built-in support for Web services.
The vendor also reports that PowerCenter RTE includes orchestration and business process management functionality for process-aware data integration and data quality, including new functionality such as a standards-compliant Business Process Execution Language (BPEL) engine with a business-friendly user interface for defining data integration processes in the Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN) language. Informatica noted that PowerCenter RTE, as a platform optimized to address any real-time analytic and operational data integration challenges, encompasses numerous performance-enhancing capabilities, including zero-latency processing, real-time change data capture capabilities, and other functions.
