Master data management (MDM)

SILVER AWARD:
DataFlux qMDM version 2.0
Taking the Silver award for master data management (MDM) is DataFlux's qMDM version 2.0. Perhaps not surprisingly, the vendor, best known for its data quality platforms, describes its MDM product as a data quality-based technology and process framework for MDM – across all data types and applications – that helps organizations tie their data governance efforts to the creation and management of master data.

DataFlux says qMDM is unique in the industry as the only currently available MDM solution built on data quality technology. By incorporating the technology to correct, standardize and de-duplicate data before it enters the master repository, qMDM ensures that data will be managed effectively, according to the company. Judges recognized the importance of DataFlux's data quality foundation, calling qMDM v2.0 a "good, solid product, an evolution from a 'core' matching algorithm."

DataFlux expressed similar sentiments, saying the product, released at the end of 2007, incorporates its experience with customer and product data quality engagements. It is available in two integrated product sets: the DataFlux qMDM Solution for Customer Data and the DataFlux qMDM Solution for Product Data. The product leverages the DataFlux Data Quality Integration Platform, pre-built master data services and data management workflows, a data stewardship console, and an entity-based data model. The solution is delivered through a service-oriented architecture, comes standard with multiple layers of pre-built business, and uses DataFlux Accelerators.

DataFlux's core data quality platform -- DataFlux Accelerators and the DataFlux qMDM solution -- is part of a single technology set, allowing customers to start with data profiling or data quality and move to qMDM when ready. In a standard database environment, the vendor said, qMDM can process approximately 1 million rows per hour, including reading, cleansing, clustering, master-record creation and database writing.

DataFlux's core technology platform (dfPower Studio and DataFlux Integration Server) is priced starting at $100,000. The DataFlux qMDM solution pricing is based on customer configuration requirements. More information is available from DataFlux.
