In the fall of 2008, editors at SearchDataManagement.com invited readers, experts and vendors in the business intelligence and analytics, data integration, data quality, data warehousing and master data management markets to nominate products for the 2008 Products of the Year awards. To be eligible for consideration, a product had to have been introduced or significantly upgraded between October 31, 2007 and November 1, 2008. For previously available products, the upgrade must have incorporated major new features that were designed to meet new or evolving needs in the marketplace.

Our panel of eight expert judges rated roughly 60 of the leading products in these categories using these criteria:
- Innovation
- Performance
- Ease of integration into environment
- Ease of use and manageability
- Functionality
- Value
- Service and support
Judges reviewed the nomination forms and ranked the products based on the information submitted in the forms as well as their personal experience and knowledge of the products. We then tallied the judges' ratings and aggregated them to come up with a single numerical score, which determined the winners in each category.
