One day after Cognos added Applix's analytics technology to its BI suite, Business Objects Inc. made an acquisition of its own, snapping up European data quality vendor Fuzzy! Informatik.

Terms of the deal, which is expected to close in October, were not disclosed.

This marks the second data quality acquisition for Business Objects, which has dual headquarters in Paris and San Jose, Calif. Last February, it bought FirstLogic for $69 million.

Headquartered in Stuttgart, Germany, Fuzzy! Informatik is a spin-off of the former Daimler-Chrysler AG and has a number of automotive customers, including Daimler Chrysler, BMW and Mazda. It provides technology for the European market that cleanses address data and creates directory content. The privately held company employs more than 50 people.

"The acquisition of Fuzzy! adds over 13 years of data quality expertise in a strategic market to our portfolio," Joerg Limberg, Business Objects vice president and general manager Central Europe, said in a statement. "By leveraging Fuzzy!'s talent and know-how, we can deliver even stronger product offerings to our current customers around the globe while strengthening our data quality presence in Europe."

The application will be added to Business Objects' EIM offering, bringing European address cleansing, integration kits for SAP and Siebel applications, an on-demand address-cleansing service, and vertical applications for financial services and postal services.
