Microsoft released Office PerformancePoint Server 2007 last year as its main offering in the competitive business intelligence (BI) and corporate performance management (CPM) software market. While PerformancePoint Server has ranked well in analyst studies such as Gartner's Magic Quadrant for BI software, the product is structured differently than some other BI platforms, making it a bit confusing to understand and compare in the overall BI market. So, SearchDataManagement.com caught up with Craig Utley, independent expert and author of the recent book Business Intelligence with Microsoft Office PerformancePoint Server 2007 -- and asked him to cover the basics and more.

In this 20-minute podcast, appropriate for both business and IT professionals, listeners will:

  • Find out Microsoft Office PerformancePoint Server 2007's place in the BI and CPM markets, including how it compares with other BI platforms
  • Learn more about PerformancePoint Server's strengths and weaknesses -- and find out how organizations are using the product
  • Get the basics on pricing, find out how PerformancePoint Server fits into the Microsoft product line (including what it replaces) and learn how it integrates with other technologies

About the expert: Craig Utley is an independent expert, consultant and author, whose most recent book Business Intelligence with Microsoft Office PerformancePoint Server 2007, was published in January.
