You might be able to leverage your data quality tool for standardizing the data, but that won't address the other functions you might need with MDM. For instance, does your data quality tool handle matching? What about tracking data lineage? How will you update multiple sources? What about business rules for security and access? As people peel back the onion of MDM, they discover the functionality they truly need doesn't exist in a "packaged' way in their organizations. They either have to build it or buy it.
