Metadata management is a foundational component of any EIM program. Business users in an organization do not have an enterprise wide, reliable, accurate source of metadata (definitions, calculations, business rules, etc.) to use when analyzing information or making business decisions. A metadata management initiative is needed to provide enterprise context to the systems, applications, interfaces, resources, and data that comprise enterprise information assets.
A metadata management initiative also enables data governance and stewardship by providing context to information resources and easy access to data stewards and other information consumers, both business and technical, in the organization.
