QUESTION POSED ON: 21 May 2006
What is web intelligence? What is the difference between data mining and data warehousing?

>
Web intelligence (WI), also referred to as web business intelligence (WBI) has been taken to mean many things, but I think from a data warehouse/business intelligence practitioner's standpoint, web intelligence refers to the analysis of web clickstream patterns.

Data warehousing is the process of collecting data from across disparate company sources into an architecture designed for data access. Data mining is one of those data access mechanisms although mining can occur against data not in data warehouses. Data mining is the means of automating discovery to explore and identify new business insight.
