QUESTION POSED ON: 24 June 2005
Could you please give me some hints and tips for implementing BW -- what are all the precautions we have to take?

As we are going to implement Finance and Logistics in SAP BW, what should we keep in mind?

EXPERT RESPONSE
Finance and Logistics can be implemented in many different ways in BW. Extraction of logistics can be done using LO Cockpit, which has delivered business contents. There are also other methods, like LIS structure, which SAP doesn't support any more.

The extractors are still available, but no new development is being done. The other method is using your own custom extractors. Depending on the user requirement and the duration of implementation time, you can decide the approach.

Since these are two major areas in BW, there are many things to be considered before the implementation project. For Finance, there are business contents available, and my suggestion is to use these contents wherever possible to do the necessary customization. All decisions should be based on the reporting requirements from the users. One of the important questions you should ask the users is the granurality of the reporting, and also if they need any drill-down functionalities.
