Online banking in the US is on the rise, and therefore financial institutions should deploy strategic security measures in addition to blanket measures for online banking. While financial institutions are well ahead of other industries in understanding, developing, and implementing IT security enhancements to meet the growing threat of Internet security breaches, their online banking customers generally aren't.

The answer here depends largely on the perspective from which you desire an answer. From the end user perspective, a number of devices have become available for your home or work PC to transform it into a more powerful ebanking computer including smart secure card readers built into standard keyboards.

From the back end perspective, many of the security technologies in use today are based on tried and true defense-in-depth models including firewalls, VPN's, anti-virus, intrusion detection/prevention, logging, etc.
