Yes, technology is an enabler for EIM. But establishing a successful program requires more than just software or tools. EIM is not a single technology or component; rather, it's a coordinated framework of information management disciplines for managing data and information assets throughout the organization.

Successful EIM programs need to establish, through data governanceinitiatives, the policies, procedures, standards and practices that will be used to manage and maintain information organization-wide. These disciplines must be assimilated into the organization through established processes – such as business cases, the systems development life cycle (SDLC) and departmental and individual performance goals – in order to encourage and sustain behavioral change for information management across the enterprise.
